How I got started in Macs

It was back in the 1997 and I was living in London, struggling to make ends meet as an artist. Because I was involved in the art world, an art dealer happened to mention one day that he was struggling with his Computer, a Mac (Actually they were at that time called PowerPC). I offered to help him out and so it was that I found myself organizing his entire technical life, from his internet connection (we were still using dial up) to his backups (disks crashed a lot more back then).

As I was sitting next to him performing what to him looked like magic, he said “Why don’t you do this for a living?” I looked at him and asked “Fix Macs?” “Absolutely” he replied. I discussed with him what would be a good fee and with that information I started Mac Doctor. I advertised in the local yellow pages (remember when that’s how we found help?) and immediately gained clients all over the city.

Mac Doctor grew into a small business and we eventually had to hire some geniuses (before that’s what they were called) to help out. Of course all things change and slowly I moved into the internet industry, producing websites for companies, medical practices, and law firms. Mac Doctor kept going without me.

Fast forward to 2020 and I find myself in Hawaii, a longtime dream. By this point, I was working as a programmer for a Fortune 500 tech company, but deep down I yearned for the independence I always had during my Mac Doctor years. Coincidentally, I found myself helping out locals and businesses again, this time realtors, independent business owners, doctors, dentists, and plenty of retired folk who found technology too time consuming and difficult to organize properly.

Enter Hawaii Mac Support, the business aimed at helping other businesses get their tech, devices, and infrastructure under control. I and the team love helping out, and seeing happy faces at the end of the day makes us all feel good! So if you want a supporting team behind you, get in touch!
